Google Business Profile Optimization

The listing that decides whether you are on the map. We claim it, build it out and keep it current, so a customer in metro Detroit searching for what you do finds you first, sees that you are open, and calls.

Talk to us

In short

The Google listing for your Michigan business, claimed, filled in and kept current, so the map shows you before it shows the competition.

  • Owned by you, managed by us
  • Categories, hours, photographs and services done right
  • Copies of your listing found and reported
  • Kept current every month, with a rank grid to prove it

Why the listing matters more than the website

The map is where a local customer decides.

A person searching for a plumber, a dentist or a florist in Michigan sees three businesses on a map before they see a single website. The profile is what puts you among the three.

Only about a third of small businesses have a Google Business Profile at all, and most of the ones that do set it up once and never opened it again. The map pack is decided by the profile more than by anything on your website: the primary category, whether you are open at the moment of the search, the photographs, the reviews and whether they were answered.

That is good news for a local business, because it means the largest single lever in local search is a listing you can control completely, for free, and most of your competitors have not touched. We do the work of making it the strongest listing in its category across metro Detroit, then keep it that way.

22%
of what decides a map ranking is the profile itself, the largest single group of signals
#1
the primary category is the single most important local ranking factor

In the work

Everything on the listing, done properly once

The profile has more fields than most people know, and Google weighs the ones nobody fills.

  1. Claimed, verified and owned by you

The profile sits in a Google account you control, with us as a manager. If it was claimed by a former employee, an old agency or nobody, we get it back through Google's process rather than starting a duplicate.

  2. The categories, chosen with care

The primary category is the most important field on the listing. We set it to what you actually are, add the secondary ones that fit, and remove the ones an earlier hand added to cover the bases.

  3. Hours that are true, including the holidays

Google prefers businesses that are open at the moment of the search. Regular hours, holiday hours and the winter schedule, entered before they change rather than after a customer finds the door locked.

  4. Photographs that are yours

Your storefront, your vans, your people, your work, shot at the sizes Google displays them at. No stock. A customer can tell, and so can the algorithm that reads the images.

  5. Services, products and attributes filled in

Every service you offer as its own entry with its own description, the attributes that apply, and the description of the business written to be read by a person and matched by a search.

  6. Kept current every month

Posts, questions answered, new photographs, spam listings that copy you reported, and a short note on what changed. A profile that was set up once and never touched is what most competitors have.

Getting there

Audit, fix, fill, connect, keep

In that order, because filling a listing before its foundations are right decorates a problem.
  1. 01

    Audit what is there

The listing as Google sees it, the duplicates, the categories, the reviews, and a rank grid across the area you serve, so the starting point is measured rather than guessed.

  2. 02

    Fix the foundations

Ownership, name, address, phone, categories and hours. The fields that carry the ranking weight, made right before anything decorative is touched.

  3. 03

    Fill it

Services, products, attributes, description, photographs and the first posts. The listing goes from a name on a map to a page a customer can decide from.

  4. 04

    Connect it

Call tracking on the listing's number, tagged links to the site, so you can see what the profile produced rather than assume.

  5. 05

    Keep it current

Monthly: posts, answered questions, new photographs, reported copies, and the rank grid run again. This is the part a one-off setup never includes.

Fitted work

What comes up here, specifically

Built for businesses in metro Detroit and across Michigan, not for a national template.
  1. The winter hours problem

Whether a business is open at the time of the search is now one of the five strongest signals on the map. A Michigan business with summer hours still on its listing in January is telling Google it is closed while the customer is looking.

  2. The service-area business

A plumber in Farmington Hills who works across Oakland and Wayne counties has no storefront to show. The address is hidden, the service area is set by the places actually served, and the listing still ranks. Done wrong, it is suspended.

  3. The listing from the old address

A move from Southfield to Novi leaves the old listing alive, splitting reviews and confusing the map. We merge or close it through Google rather than leaving two versions of you competing.

  4. The copy of you

Lead-generation sites and competitors create listings that borrow a real business's name and category. We find them in your area and report them through Google's redressal process, which is the only way they come down.

Right time when

When this is worth doing

A good fit

  • Your customers search for what you do and a place, and you are not in the three on the map
  • The profile was claimed once and has not been opened since
  • You have moved, renamed, changed hours or changed what you do
  • You are a service-area business with no storefront to show

Not a fit

  • You sell online only, with no local customers to be found by
  • You want reviews written or bought, which we will not do
  • The listing is fine and the problem is the website or the phone, which are different pages

Scope

What we do not do

Every one of these is offered by somebody. Each one is how a listing gets suspended.
  1. Reviews that are bought or written

Against Google's policy and, since 2024, against federal rules on fake reviews. A listing caught doing it loses its reviews and often its ranking. We build the system that asks real customers instead.

  2. Keywords stuffed into the business name

“Northwest Plumbing Farmington Hills Emergency Plumber” ranks for a while and then gets suspended. The name on the listing is the name on the sign.

  3. A promised position

Where you appear on the map depends on where the searcher is standing, which nobody can optimize. We can make the listing the strongest one in its category; we cannot move the customer.

Reasonable to ask

Before you commission it

How long until a Google Business Profile ranks?

Corrections to categories and hours show within days. Movement on the map takes weeks to a few months, depending on how many competitors in the area have done the same work. The first rank grid gives a baseline, and the monthly one shows the change.

Do you need access to my Google account?

We are added as a manager on a profile you own. We never hold the only login, and if we stop working together you remove us in one click and keep everything.

What if the profile is suspended?

Suspensions come from guideline problems: a name with keywords in it, an address that is a mailbox or a virtual office, a category that does not fit. We fix the cause, document it, and file the reinstatement with Google. It is slower than most people expect, and honesty in the filing is what gets it back.

Does the profile cost anything?

Google does not charge for a Business Profile. The work of building and running it well is what we do, and we quote it on the call.

Is this the same as local search optimization?

It is the first and largest part of it. Local search optimization also covers the directories that have to agree with the profile, the location pages on your site and the reviews. If the profile is your only problem, this is the page; if the map still does not show you after it is fixed, the local search page is the next step.

Send us the name of the business.

We will look at the listing as Google sees it and tell you, in plain terms, what is wrong with it and what it would take. If it is fine and the problem is somewhere else, we will say that.
