Local Services Ads booking leads: on by default now

Local Services Ads booking leads are now switched on for many trades without anybody asking for them. In August 2026 Google expanded booking on Local Services Ads from about 20 scheduling partners to more than 500, and said that if your Google Business Profile already has an active partner booking link, it is "now enabled for your LSA automatically." Every booking made that way is billed as a paid lead. If you run ServiceTitan, Jobber, Housecall Pro, Workiz or a similar tool, check your Local Services Ads settings this week, before the heating rush fills the calendar with jobs you priced for a phone call.

In short

  • Google expanded Local Services Ads booking to more than 500 Reserve with Google partners, up from 20 (Google, via Search Engine Roundtable, August 26, 2026).
  • An active partner booking link on your profile switches booking on in your ads automatically, and each booking counts as a paid lead (same source).
  • 80% of homeowners factor in online booking when choosing a pro, in a vendor survey of 1,040 U.S. homeowners (Housecall Pro, 2025).
  • On October 2, 2026 Search Engine Roundtable saw ads hiding the phone number until the mouse hovers over them, which pushes more customers toward the booking button.

What Google changed

Google's notice, posted by Ads Liaison Ginny Marvin and published by Search Engine Roundtable on August 26, 2026, reads: "We're vastly expanding booking capabilities for Local Services Ads to include more than 500 Reserve with Google booking partners – up from just 20."

Three lines in it matter to an owner:

  • It is on by default. "If your Google Business Profile already has an active partner booking link, it is also now enabled for your LSA automatically."
  • It is billed. "Direct bookings flow into your LSA lead reporting as paid leads."
  • It can be turned off. You can "adjust your booking preferences or turn off a specific partner link" under Profile & Budget, then Settings, in the Local Services Ads dashboard.

Google's help page adds the limits. The feature is "currently available only in the US," some categories are available only in California and Florida, and it "isn't available for health care or tax specialists." Google's partner list names ServiceTitan, Jobber, Housecall Pro, Workiz, Square, Vagaro, HighLevel and Scorpion, among others, each marked "All, except Healthcare."

Search Engine Roundtable also reports that these booking settings will carry over automatically when Local Services Ads accounts move into Google Ads in the coming months. Decide what you want now, because the setting follows you.

Why it matters more this month

A booking is a lead you did not get to talk to first. On a call, you hear "my furnace is making a noise" and decide whether it is a tune-up, a repair or a replacement quote, and whether the address is inside your service area. A booking arrives as a time slot.

Homeowners like it. Housecall Pro's survey of 1,040 U.S. homeowners, fielded in October 2025 and published that December, found that "Eighty percent of homeowners factor in online booking when deciding on a Pro." Housecall Pro sells booking software, so read the number as a vendor's, but the direction matches what Google is doing.

Google is also making the phone harder to find. On October 2, 2026 Search Engine Roundtable's Barry Schwartz wrote that "Google Local Service Ads seems to hide the phone number until you hover your mouse over the ad." He asked whether it was new; Google has not said. If it holds, more of your ad traffic will book rather than call.

What to check this week

  1. Open Profile & Budget, then Settings, in your Local Services Ads account. See whether booking leads are on and which partner link is active. Google's help page says this is where you turn the feature off.
  2. Make your booking tool's availability true. If your scheduling software shows open slots that nobody is assigned to, Google will sell them. Block days you cannot cover, and set booking windows that leave room for emergency calls in a cold snap.
  3. Limit what can be booked online. Check whether your scheduling tool lets you choose which job types are bookable online. A diagnostic or a tune-up is a fine online booking. A full system replacement quote probably is not.
  4. Check the service area in both places. A booking from outside your area is still a lead in your report. Make the area in your scheduling tool match your Local Services Ads area.
  5. Review booking leads like phone leads. Google says "lead prices may vary depending on your location, the job type, the type of lead, or your bidding mode," and that charged leads "may be issued credits automatically if determined to be low quality." Use the feedback survey on any booking that was not a real job.
  6. Call every booking back the same day. Confirm the problem, the address and the arrival window. That call turns a time slot into a job, and catches the one that should have been a different job.

The mistake most owners make at step 2

They treat the online calendar as a sales tool and leave it wide open. In October that is the expensive choice. When the first cold night hits metro Detroit, the phone and the booking button fill at the same time, and the booking button does not know that your two technicians are already on no-heat calls until eight. Every booked slot you cannot keep is a paid lead, an unhappy customer and a likely bad review.

Open fewer slots than you think you can cover. Add more when the week is quieter. A calendar that tells the truth is worth more than a full one.

Where this fits with missed calls

This is the same product that began charging for some missed calls on October 1, 2026; our guide to the Local Services Ads missed-call charge covers that rule. Together they push one way: every way a customer reaches you through the ad is now billed, whether it is a call you answered, a call you missed or a slot they booked.

Our appointment scheduling automation books from every channel into the calendar you already run, with your rules for job types, durations and staff, and sends the confirmation and reminders so the booked slot turns into a kept appointment. For the rest of what we build for trades, see our services.

Check the setting. Then make the calendar say only what you can deliver.
